Cindervale (/Cindervel/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Lasihido County, Midate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Cindervale is derived from the Sylvin language, as Cindervale was founded by Húlien Brailsford Bedingfeld, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Cindervale has a yearly average temperature of 12°C (53°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 21°C (69°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 3°C (37°F). Cindervale receives an average of 204 cm/y (80 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Cindervale covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 2978 m (9770 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Cindervale was founded durring the late 14th century in summer of the year 1284, by Húlien Brailsford Bedingfeld. The establishment of Cindervale was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Húlien Brailsford Bedingfeld struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Cindervale as a prison colony.

Cindervale was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Cindervale is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Cindervale is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of narrow paverstone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town is protected by a humble stone fence which is tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. The town's peasent-grade are visibly old, but also obviously maintained semi-regularly. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with ocasional mantance of the towns defences.

A look around Cindervale gives you an uneasy feeling. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring just long enough for it to be uncomfortable. This all rests atop the unmistakable impression the town is one of the strictest places imaginable. Everyone’s actions are clearly directed by laws they keep in heart and mind at all times. Orderly byond order is a phrase which Cindervale brings to mind.

Cindervale has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Cindervale's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Cindervale has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Cindervale has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Cindervale has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Cindervale's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by their massive, monolithic and 'blocky' appearance with a rigid geometric style. It was best known for its rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy-looking materials, straight lines, and small windows. Modular elements were often used to form masses representing specific functional zones, grouped into a unified whole.

Due to the actions of local Kami, summer is short in Cindervale.

Cindervale's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves bloodletting to channel Transmutation energies of tier 3 via throat chanting.
